Sponsored Content Policy

At PlaylisterUK.co.uk, our readers’ trust is built on clarity. Sponsored content is any material where a commercial partner has paid for us to publish or promote their message. It is distinct from independent editorial and carries labels that make the relationship obvious. This policy explains what sponsored content looks like on our site, how it is governed, and how it differs from other commercial arrangements.

How we label sponsored content

Every piece of sponsored content is clearly marked at the top of the page or, in the case of embedded features, in a prominent position adjacent to the content. We use one of the following labels, depending on the nature of the arrangement:

  • “Sponsored by [Brand]” – the content is funded by a named brand but produced by our editorial team or a freelance contributor, with the brand’s input limited to brief.
  • “Advertisement feature” – the content is supplied or heavily shaped by the advertiser, and is distinct from editorial.
  • “Paid partnership with [Brand]” – a collaboration where the brand has paid for a specific feature, article, or series.
  • “In association with [Brand]” – used for longer-term partnerships where the brand supports a category or event coverage.
  • “Promoted artist feature” – specifically for artist profiles, playlist features, or news items where a record label, promoter, or artist has paid for placement.

These labels appear in the headline area or as a banner overlay on images, and are never hidden in page metadata or footer text.

Rules we follow

  • All sponsored content is clearly labelled at the point of consumption. No paid material is disguised as independent editorial.
  • Commercial partners receive no approval over independent editorial reviews, news articles, or playlist selections unless the item itself is explicitly labelled as sponsored. Even then, editorial judgment over accuracy and legality remains ours.
  • Paid playlist placement is never presented as an independent editorial selection. Our playlist policy sets out the full separation between paid and editorially curated playlists.
  • Sponsored content may include the brand’s messaging, but it must not mislead, contain false claims, or violate our broader editorial standards as outlined in the editorial policy.

How sponsorship differs from affiliate links

Affiliate links allow us to earn a small commission when readers click through and make a purchase (for example, buying concert tickets or streaming subscriptions). Affiliate relationships do not involve payment for the content itself; the editorial team selects items independently. Full disclosure is provided in our advertising and affiliate disclosure. Sponsored content, by contrast, is paid for before publication and is labelled as such. We do not mix the two: an article that contains affiliate links is not sponsored, and a sponsored feature will not contain undisclosed affiliate links.

How sponsorship differs from independent reviews

Independent reviews are written by our editorial team or freelancers without any payment or influence from artists, labels, or brands. The review reflects the writer’s honest assessment. Sponsored content, even when it resembles a review, is paid for and labelled accordingly. For our independent review standards, see the reviews policy.

Editorial independence

No commercial relationship – whether sponsorship, advertising, affiliate, or partnership – determines editorial conclusions. Our editorial policy and ownership and funding page explain how we keep editorial and commercial operations separate. The editor-in-chief retains final authority over all content, sponsored or not.
