PlaylisterUK.co.uk publishes playlist features and recommendations as part of our commitment to covering the breadth of music culture in the United Kingdom. Our playlists highlight new releases, emerging artists, genre deep-dives, seasonal listening and themed collections – always rooted in editorial judgement rather than commercial influence. This policy explains how we select tracks for inclusion, how we distinguish editorial playlists from sponsored or promoted content, and what readers can expect from our playlist coverage.
How we select playlist features and recommendations
Our playlists are curated by Daniel Mercer, Playlists & Discovery Editor (see Our Team), who applies a set of consistent editorial criteria to every track and feature:
- Editorial judgement – tracks are chosen based on musical merit, originality and the strength of the listening experience.
- Relevance to UK audiences – we prioritise music that connects with UK listeners, whether through artist origin, cultural context or chart activity.
- Audience interest – we consider what our readers are currently discovering, streaming and discussing.
- Release quality and production – we look for well-crafted recordings, strong songwriting and clear artistic intent.
- Cultural context – playlists reflect themes, seasons, events or movements that matter in UK music culture.
Playlist inclusion is not guaranteed. We receive many more submissions and suggestions than we can feature. For information on how to submit music for editorial consideration, see our Music Submissions Policy.
Editorial independence and transparency
All editorial playlists are selected independently by the PlaylisterUK.co.uk editorial team. We do not accept payment or consideration in exchange for inclusion in an editorial playlist. Where a playlist or track recommendation is sponsored, promoted or placed as part of a commercial partnership, it will be clearly labelled. Sponsored or promoted content is never presented as independent editorial selection. For full details, see our Sponsored Content Policy and Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.
Every editorial playlist feature carries the following standard disclosure:
“Disclosure: This playlist feature was selected by the PlaylisterUK.co.uk editorial team. Sponsored or promoted tracks are labelled where applicable.”
How playlists differ from reviews
Playlist features and reviews serve different purposes. A review offers a critical evaluation of a specific album, single or live performance, with a clear verdict and analysis. A playlist feature, by contrast, is a curated selection of tracks designed to introduce listeners to music they might enjoy. Playlists do not rank, rate or assign scores to individual tracks. For our approach to critical reviews, see our Reviews Policy.
Commitment to transparency
Our playlist policy is part of a broader commitment to editorial transparency. For the principles that guide all our content – including corrections, fact-checking, sourcing and conflicts of interest – please read our Editorial Policy.
